Grey-Water and its Usage

Greywater Recycling

Greywater recycling is water that has not come into contact with feces from places such as baths, toilet bowls or other contaminated items. It is water that is generally received from showers, sinks and washing machines. Grey water is a type of resource that may contain traces of dirt, such as cleaning products, grease or food, but it is still very safe to drink. It is even beneficial to gardens and yards for growth. They are a valuable fertiliser for plants. Greywater is a sustainable resource that reduces the amount of pollution in the local water bodies, such as rivers, seas and lakes.

The advantages of Greywater recycling and why it is regularly used is, it reduces water bills, uses minimal water resources, supplies water to the gardens, decreases the size and impact of pollution on the waterways and helps save money for new construction sites to support water systems.

Usage of Greenwater

Home

In homes, Greywater is used in many electronics and for many different resources. It is generally used for bathrooms, sinks, showers, tubs and washing machines. Through the use of a washing machine, this is the easiest source to reuse Greywater. The internal pump installed in your washing machine is already an advantage to the use of Greywater as is directly pumps your water to the plants. Showers also provide a good source of Greywater as it is relatively clean. By using a branched drain, the Greywater is able to smoothly flow through the pipes, by the gravitational force, and into the shower and other large perennials. Though it is time consuming, it requires little work and works well for long periods of time. This branched drain systems also helps with the process of Greywater passing through sinks, to stop any clogging and other electrical devices such as baths and tubs. Greywater is also used in places around the house such as constructed wetlands, garden beds and pumped systems.

School

In schools, Greywater is used for similar reasons to what it is used for in a house. Toilets, gardens, water systems, etc. Though the Grey Water usage system in a school is similar to that of a house, there are still a few things Greywater is used for in a school that isn't used in a home, such as cleaning the footpaths at the front of schools and providing hydration and water to the lawns.

Communities

In many communities and urban areas, Greywater is used through sewage systems such as public toilets, council grassed areas, council road side gutter cleaning and our local gardens and parks. You may need to consider using Greywater in Urban areas if you wish to reduce freshwater consumption as it helps save drinking water, as every drop counts, if you live in areas with water restrictions, occasional droughts or minimal water systems and if your urban area has large gardens that need to be watered often and can not sustain its existence due to the extended water restrictions.
